William Wain

30 Years in Jewellery

Since 1988

William Wain has been immersed in the world of antiques and vintage jewellery for more than 30, sourcing and researching exquisite and unusual pieces from all over the world.

Initially entering into the magical and unknown world of costume jewellery from the 1920s onwards, and the worlds of its designers and makers, at a time when very little was known about costume jewellery, William was fascinated by the rich and wonderful pieces, and the myth and mystery of their creators he was discovering. He found a world of collectors, fashion devotees, glamorous clients, all true individuals with styles totally their own, through pursuing his passion for this wonderful world.

After finding his first pair of Miriam Haskell earrings, and a wonderful ‘circus horse’ brooch by Roger Jean Pierre for Christian Dior on his initial forays, he took a stall at Portobello Road market on a Saturday, for many years, and finally, to a shop in the celebrated Antiquarius on the Kings Road.

Having been entranced by the 1920s  and the world of Art Deco, the world of Hollywood films and glamour, and style throughout the 20th century, as a teenager, his knowledge and business developed into contributing to some of the most important and informative exhibitions, collections and publications of costume jewellery and the French haute couture.
